What’s New at Stash Bandit
My patriotic quilt called Indivisible came out in the July/August issue of Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting.
This idea was born during a work day that my guild hosted to make Quilts of Valor. I made a few Friendship Stars as kind of a soup starter, not sure where they would lead. Our bin of donated fabrics had a wide red stripe in it, and I started thinking about combining it with the stars. Long story short, this is the design that emerged.
This is the red and white fabric I used, which is still available. It’s from the American Honor line by Blank Quilting. I recommend checking your local quilt shop first. Maybe they’d even order it for you. If you don’t find it locally, you can buy it on Amazon. I have mixed feelings about the online giant but that’s a post for another day.
I wanted the quilting to suggest a flag billowing in the breeze so wavy lines went all the way across. I quilted the first one and then used the attachment shown above on my HQ Stitch 710 to quilt the rest an equal distance apart.
If I could redo it, I would make double lines of quilting. I’ve been reading Christina Cameli’s new book and have already learned a lot.
Double lines would add so much more texture. Next time! I do love Step-by-Step Texture Quilting and I’d recommend it.
In the studio, I’ve started working on quilts for a new program. “Not Your Grandma’s Samplers” will be available starting in 2021. The block above is the beginning of Girl Next Door by Jen Kingwell. It’s an adorable sampler and I’m anxious to make progress on it.
I’ve also been making receiving blankets for the new babies. My daughter and her husband have new twin baby girls, about a week old now. I made about six blankets and I embellished four burp cloths for them. It’s been great fun! Until last week, I had just two grandsons, so it’s been great to pull out the pink.
This is little Lucy, who I’ve fallen hard for. Her sister will join us at home before long. It’s been a whirlwind with so much love and snuggling, and just quiet moments of sweet baby sounds and smells. My heart is full.
I hope you’re having a wonderful summer!

Congratulations! Twin girls–what fun! I also used wavy lines on a Quilt of Valor quilt and I didn’t even think of using double lines. I think I will try that the next time. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations on your new granddaughters. They are the best. I should know. I have six. Now I know why you’ve been so quiet on your blog.
