Playing Drezzup in Hastings, Nebraska

Written by Diane Harris on February 7, 2020. Posted in Blog, How-tos and Ideas, Trunk Shows

I had a delightful time with Hastings (Nebraska) Quilter’s Guild last night, presenting Let’s Play Drezzup to about 50 people. This program is in three parts:

  1. A hands-on experience to make, trim and join the Dresden blades. Everyone takes home her samples.
  2. A trunk show of blocks showing the endless variations possible with Dresden Plate.
  3. A sampling of new and old Dresden quilts with quirks, oddities and interesting details.

I have to rush to fit it all in one hour but it’s getting good feedback. Whenever I pull this trunk show out in preparation for a program, I get all excited about Dresden Plate again! I could spend the next five years on these quilts alone.

Let’s Play Drezzup: Trunk Show and Workshop

Written by Diane Harris on April 23, 2019. Posted in Blog, How-tos and Ideas, Trunk Shows

I fell hard for Dresden Plate about 10 years ago and there’s no hint that this love affair will end any time soon. I offer a lecture and a workshop and they’re very different but both are a lot of fun. I wanted to share a few of the quilts with you.

All Drezzed Up by Diane Harris

All Drezzed Up is the quilt that started it all. I bought 20 vintage Dresden Plate blocks for 20 dollars at an antique mall in Ogallala, Nebraska. Their points were raw-edged, and if I had known more about Dresdens at the time I might have left them behind.

My Quilt Dilemma

Written by Diane Harris on January 29, 2019. Posted in Blog, Quilt Lifestyle, Trunk Shows

I’m making a quilt of my own design that will become part of two guild programs,* but it’s not going well. I’m undecided about what to do. I know what I should do but I’m unwilling to do it.

This is it. It’s actually prettier than it looks here even if it is giving me fits. The biggest problem is this:

Dresden Plate’s a Winner!

Written by Diane Harris on August 18, 2018. Posted in Blog, How-tos and Ideas, Quilt Lifestyle

I got an exciting email recently. Mary McIntyre took my “Let’s Play Drezzup” class on Dresden Plate in May when I visited Lafayette, Indiana. She wrote, “Look what got Champ at the Tippecanoe County Fair, Lafayette, Indiana!”

Once the quilt came back to her, Mary and I talked on the phone. She had never made a Dresden Plate before the class. Her mother had made them but Mary didn’t care much for the old-time fabrics, and the thought of extensive handwork didn’t appeal to her either.

Dresden Plate Delight

Written by Diane Harris on August 13, 2018. Posted in How-tos and Ideas, Trunk Shows

I had a great group of students for a “Let’s Play Drezzup” workshop in Indiana earlier this summer. And I had a new experience with the GPS on my iPhone when it got me totally lost and I was very late for the class I was teaching. I was mortified but the quilters were so nice about it and our day together was terrific after that.

You never know what kind of fabrics people will bring, but the surprises are often wonderful. This quilter had fabrics from her mother’s stash! Aren’t those vintage prints amazing?

One Hundred Small Quilts #2

Written by Diane Harris on March 6, 2018. Posted in Blog, How-tos and Ideas

My trunk show “One Hundred Small Quilts” is popular with quilt groups. I’ve been giving it for six years and have added to the collection. I actually bring about 120 quilts with me. The quilts have lessons to teach us. This is Dresden Delight.
