Make a Summer Splash on The Quilt Show
If “sampler” makes you think of blocks in rows with sashing, let me introduce something new!
A few years back I designed Petit Patchwork as a way to teach several techniques to quilters at a retreat. It was fun to make and it’s an attractive little quilt.

Fast forward to last year when I was a guest on The Quilt Show with Ricky Tims (Alex Anderson was recovering from surgery) and crew. They’d seen Petit Patchwork and invited me to design this year’s summer quilt project. When I learned how it would work, another small sampler seemed like the right choice. And that’s how Summer Splash was born.

The project evolved from my earliest sketches, above, to finished quilt top #1, below.

And then,
because I fell in love with the second colorway too, I decided to make it at the last minute as well.

The folks at thequiltshow.com are top-tier professionals and they have a knack for making things happen easily. A while back Alex and I chatted through a short interview so I could share the quilt tops. That went live this week, and you can watch it on YouTube.
These little samplers were really entertaining as I made them. You don’t have to make a zillion of any one thing. The fabrics are gorgeous! I feel okay saying that because Kristin at the show took my EQ drawings and curated the fabrics, and she did a wonderful job.
They’re stunning! I couldn’t be happier with how they all play together. She embraced my ideas about clashing, and the quilts sparkle. Above is the “summer” version and below is the “spicy autumn” version.

If you’d prefer to use your own fabrics, you can purchase the pattern separately and do your own thing. But honestly, the kits are the bomb!
The “pattern” is actually a 30-page booklet with diagrams, photos, instructions, full-size foundations and templates. You get a lot of bang for your buck! Above is the summer booklet cover and below is the autumn cover. It’s available in paper or PDF from The Quilt Show.
But guess what? You don’t have to make this quilt alone!
I’ll walk you through the trickiest parts of this quilt during three different mini-classes that are open to all. They’ll be a big help as you make Summer Splash.
And here’s a fun complimentary gift for you!
You can watch my episode on The Quilt Show right now at no charge. This will give you a taste of my style and how I teach and share.
I’d encourage you to check on a membership to thequiltshow.com. You can join for less than five dollars a month. You can save even more if you join for one full year at $49 (that’s $4.08 a month). Your choice!
TONS of additional resources are included: 500 shows, endless inspiration, like-minded makers and much more.
I hope you’ll want to make Summer Splash. At just 33″ x 41″ it comes together quickly. And remember:
How do you eat an elephant?

One bite at a time!

Diane, I am so excited that you and your quilt were chosen for the summer quilt event with Alex Anderson. You are so deserving of this honor! You are a superb designer, quilter, and teacher! When you taught at my guild retreat last November, you became a friend. 😁

Ironically, I picked up my quilt, Scattered Stars, from the quilter yesterday and got your email about your appearance on the Quilt show. The information on the show was so helpful.
You are the presenter at my guild in Normal, IL on October 3rd. I will look forward to seeing what you have.
Have a great day!

I purchased the Summer Splash in Spice. The fabrics are gorgeous. Can I starch my fabric with Best Press? Will there be enough fabric? My sewing is much more accurate when I starch.
Thank you,
A friend from Maryland, Karla
