You probably know that my specialty is making scrap quilts full of color and pattern. I design many quilts from scratch but I also make other people’s designs from patterns they sell.
When I make a quilt that someone else designed, I usually scrap it up because that’s how I roll. I can’t imagine making a quilt from three fabrics or even six or seven fabrics. I want 60, 70 or 700!
I finished piecing an adorable quilt top over 4th of July weekend. I started it last year on Independence Day and it felt great to complete it.
There’s something incredibly quirky about patriotic pineapples. What does one have to do with the other? I can’t say exactly and yet this design grabbed my attention and I started sewing.
My guild had a two-day retreat the first weekend of 2020 and I was able to go for one day. It’s always fun to see what other people are working on and have time to catch up with everyone.
Lots of people worked on patriotic quilts for veterans in our area of Nebraska. We’ve been working our way through all the veterans we know about, and I think we have almost finished up those from the Korean War. The quilt above is a Scrap Box Chevron from Franklin Quilt Company.
Last year I had this idea: Design a Christmas quilt with giant candy canes. The candy canes would be so big they’d cover the entire quilt. I nestled them together and topped them off with a Starlite™ mint.

Then I thought it might be fun to make a giant pineapple quilt, and that’s how Welcome was born.
Is there a better month than June? It’s not too hot, there aren’t too many mosquitoes and the whole summer stretches before you.
I live at the northern edge of wheat country and the wheat is gorgeous this time of year. I snapped the shot above on my morning walk yesterday. This is hard red winter wheat, and it will be harvested probably in July. Everything is late this year because it’s been cool and wet.
I am really, really excited to have my rainbow Color Coded quilt in the June issue of American Patchwork & Quilting. Those folks have been so nice to work with and they made my quilt look amazing!

I’m not the least bit Scandinavian, so when cute little creatures called “tomten” started appearing in my Instagram feed last year, I had to Google.
It turns out they’re a little bit like gnomes. From Wikipedia:
A…tomte…is a mythological creature from Nordic folklore…typically associated with the winter solstice and the Christmas season.
Much to my fella’s chagrin, I brake for garage sales. He’s not usually with me but he still rolls his eyes when I bring stuff home. It’s okay, I know how to ignore that.
The other day I stopped by a very junky looking sale with a ton of stuff all over the yard and driveway. I scored some random Legos for my grand boy for 25 cents, and bought the topic for today: A vintage sewing box full of sewing stuff.
